Currently, we are in the middle of a unit where students do research on an artist of their choosing, create an artwork inspired by their process, and then present their research and artwork to their peers. In a digital world, having physical books as a starting point for their research helped build a tactile research experience and also introduced them to diverse artists. \r\n\r\nThis \"Artist Study\" project gives students reading, writing, and research skills, in addition to creating original works of art. During their presentations, they will be practicing communication and public speaking skills. Lastly, this project allows students to develop their capacity to be *inspired* by artists without directly copying their work. \r\n\r\nThis is just one example of how we are using the new books in our art library. It's a joy to have materials that help both students and teacher create a clean, safe, fun, and organized environment. \r\n\r\nAs students fill up their art party chart with points earned by following the rules, their excitement builds for the competition between class periods and that sweet art party day! During art parties, we take a day off from our projects and set up art-making centers where students can collage, paint, draw, and sculpt with their friends while enjoying some popcorn and music. \r\n\r\nHaving a color-coded system in the classroom ensures that students are responsible and accountable for their own work and assist in the process of keeping our classroom clean and organized. Items like brooms and cleaning spray help students keep things tidy while magazine holders for sketchbooks and containers for materials at each table helps us keep things organized and saves us time. \r\n\r\nWe are really thriving in the art classroom this year, thanks to you and your generous donations.
