This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our Spanish Immersion Program, is the first and only 90:10 model and celebrates its 25th Silver Anniversary. The longest running Spanish Immersion program—we offer students the opportunity to learn a rigorous curriculum in a nurturing environment, all while becoming fluent and bi-literate in two languages.
One major challenge that teachers face on a daily basis is motivating students .
Conceptualized as students’ energy and drive to engage, learn, work effectively, and achieve their potential at school, motivation and engagement play a large role in students’ interest and enjoyment of school.
I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. I want them to be excited to explore the world of literature. I want to expand their capacity for critical thinking. I want them to take pride in their efforts and be willing to challenge their minds. Lastly, I want them to know how much I believe in them and they can do anything.
My Project
My goal is to provide authentic literature of leaders that helped to change laws or empower our communities through social justice as well as the arts. I want fun and meaningful literature that teaches the meaning of fairness, courage and above all kindness.
“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically.
Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”-Martin Luther King Jr.
In addition, as a teacher, I am obsessed with cultivating a love of reading in my students. I love to read and would like my students to have the same passion. In small groups we will read each part of the book. We will look up the words, ideas, and places that they are not familiar with. This will encourage discussions on questions and gives students an opportunity to share.
