I am a sixth grade classroom teacher in an elementary school setting. I have students with a wide range of abilities from Gifted and Talented to early-intermediate level English Language Learners in a class of 30 students. I love to offer students an opportunity to be creative, to collaborate with one another, and to feel successful through and beyond the process of the project. Last year we produced a multi-media project using the program I-Movies and a borrowed camcorder. Students worked in small groups to create their own short film clip based on the Fandango commercials. They created paper-bag puppets, a stage with background scenery, a storyline, and script. The students were very proud of their end product; we showcased the video in our schools annual talent show. We are asking for an E-Mac that comes with the updated I-Movie program. The added hardware to our classroom will allow more than one group to create projects in the same amount of time that it took to make one. In addition, the E-Mac can and will be utilized in others ways. It will give us one more computer station to place student groups on for Internet research, web quests, remedial software programs (reading, writing, and math) to increase achievement of the state standards for low performing students and/or English Language Learners, challenge software to broaden and meet the needs of GATE and high-achievers, and meet our technology standards.
