Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less." My favorite quote by Marie Curie reflects my students' feelings of becoming scholars. My goal is to give them a new way to understand how to channel their fear into success.

My students are a group of precocious third graders that are very motivated to learn.

Our school is a Title I funded school where 100% of the students eat school funded meals. They come from low-income families but that doesn't hinder their ability to master the Common Core standards or become great mathematicians and writers. Instead, they are eager to rise to any occasion in class. When they are given projects, they use any tools and materials they can gather at home to create unique artifacts from the resources they have at home. With the right tools, I am confident in their abilities to succeed in any academic setting now and in the future.

My Project

By having an iPad in the classroom, my students will be able to collaborate in small groups for classroom projects. Students will learn how to navigate various educational websites to research people, inventions, articles, and events for their projects. They will learn a fundamental skill, one that I am grateful to have learned at a young age, typing. In addition, our national test, Smarter Balanced, requires that students take their test on a computer or iPad. Equally important, iPads have apps that adjust to students' aptitudes from struggling students to advanced students. iPads have become the forefront at home, work, and school.

Donations will certainly improve the academic success in my classroom.

My students will be motivated to use technology as a way to demonstrate their learning. iPads have an ability to create an atmosphere where you're having fun by learning. In return, my students' achievements will show in the quality of their work, in the information they use for their presentations, and their motivation to do well. Your donations will have a profound, positive effect on my students now and for years to come.
