Integrating Tech with Literacy: Lets Get Technical

I teach in an Intermediate school in an urban setting that serves a diverse student population. Our students are coping with many different hardships at home and look to their teachers to help fill in the gaps. Each year I work with my 8th grade Language Arts students to help prepare them for the working world by completing a unit on career basics. They learn how to search for a job, complete job applications, prepare resumes, and finally conduct mock interviews.
I would like for each of my students to have their own flash drives so they can save their resumes. They may then be able to take the information with them so that they can work on their resumes at home or the library. A ready supply of ink will allow them to print out their finished work to bring with them on their interviews. Many of these students do not have a strong parental force at home so the teachers must take on the role of surrogate parents and help them to make that transition into the labor force. Your help will ensure that they have a bright future, and hopefully, a career they love.
