This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A typical day in my classroom consists of lessons that involve multiple methods of delivery. I wish to expose my students to engaging Social Studies texts and would like to utilize a globe to provide experience and models of the places we read about in English Language Arts.
All of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
Every child qualifies for free breakfast and lunch. This type of population is generally a grade level below peers in non-Title I schools. Even though my students come in low, they have the greatest potential for learning, and I want to maximize that opportunity with deep exposure to content rich social studies resources.
My Project
My students will use the Social Studies books about American history to gain more information about the country they live in. Many of my students come from Mexico, and I think it is important for them to learn more about America's past. Furthermore, I do not have any maps in my classroom. I feel a globe would help my students relate to their reading in English Language Arts with an example of the places we learn about.
I believe this project will help support my students understanding of their country as well as provide a concrete example of the different places we read about.
These resources will help my students better understand their place in a global setting.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
