This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are curious thinkers and natural collaborators. Even as English learners, they are not afraid to ask questions, share ideas, and help one another. They thrive when they can build, explore, and communicate through doing.

The purpose of using Arduino robots (Sillbird Robot STEM Kit and ELEGOO Owl Smart Robotic Car Kit) and the Circuit Cubes Space Rovers Kits in the classroom is to introduce students to the fundamentals of programming, electronics, and robotics through hands-on learning.

By building and coding these robots, students acquire and use new STEM vocabulary, develop critical thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills. For ESOL learners, this type of projects provide a meaningful context to practice academic English, using language to follow instructions, collaborate with peers, and describe processes. With the Edxeducation Math Cubes, math language through color sorting, counting, and pattern building can be reinforced in the classroom.

Some of the goals for this project are:

-Support students in learning and using key STEM and math vocabulary, while working in teams to assemble, troubleshoot, and explain their projects.

-Use robotics and STEM kits to make learning fun, relevant, and empowering.

-Show students how the English they’re learning is a tool for solving problems, working with others, and understanding the world.

What makes my students special is their remarkable resilience, curiosity, and love for collaboration. As English learners, they face the challenge of acquiring a new language while adapting to a new environment, yet they approach each day with enthusiasm and determination. They support one another, ask questions, and eagerly engage in hands-on activities that allow them to explore, create, and express themselves. They deserve many more enriching experiences, and that is why I am submitting this project to DonorsChoose.
