Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in kindergarten through sixth grade with a variety of speech/language needs. They thrive when given opportunities to use their new speech and language skills in an integrated, functional way. Most of my students come from a community without much access to fun, instructional, hands-on experiences.
A gardening unit that incorporates literacy, problem-solving, and STEAM concepts will allow them to experience the magic of new growth!
I see growth and determination in them every day as they face challenges inside and outside of school, but students often struggle to see the same progress in themselves. This unit would allow me to build a meaningful language unit with exposure to real experiences to utilize new language concepts in a functional activity!
