My students need a variety of classroom instruments: Woodblocks and Egg Shakers would be great for us to practice a rhythm band. We will begin playing recorders this year as well. We also need kazoos and claves.
"Only the best is good enough for a child" -Zoltan Kodaly
A day in my classroom is busy! We are working toward performances while working to meet many curricular goals. I am very passionate about music and my students and I want them to know that through hard work they can accomplish anything!
I have the privilege to work in a community that is near to where I grew up and much like the one that my own children attend school in.
Our district is rural and close to 80% of our students receive free and reduced lunch. My students work hard, and are awesome kids. They deserve the best, from me and other conscientious adults. Many of my students are working to overcome poverty and other difficult circumstances. They have obstacles that kids shouldn't have to face and yet they come in with contagious smiles and are eager to learn.
My Project
We need classroom instruments: Woodblocks and Egg Shakers would be great for us to practice a rhythm band and we need recorders as well. I have very few instruments in my classroom. I would like for my students to be able to do rhythm band activities and to be able to give instruments to more than ten of my kids. I would like to have enough shakers to equip every student in my class.
My students will be using recorders this year and I would like to be able to check out recorders to the students who cannot afford to purchase their own OR to have students who forget their recorder to not have to miss out on the days activities. These instruments will be used many times throughout the week in my music classroom.
The look on my students faces when they are given real instruments to play in class will be priceless to me.
My students do not get to be as hands on as they would like because we don't have the instruments needed. These instruments will create a whole new level of enjoyment and engagement in their learning. My goal is not just to teach them technical aspects of music but to help them to learn to enjoy it. I believe that being expressive is a skill that is important for everyone.
