My students need instruments such as ukuleles and boomwhackers so every student has their own instrument to play.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every day I see about 200 students walk through the door to my music room and I see each class anywhere from one to two times a week. Each time a new class arrives they are excited to see what we will be working on in music that day.
I teach at a Title I school located in a rural community that meets the needs of 650 students every day in grades K-6.
These students are wonderful singers and full of energy. I am always looking for ways to keep all of my students engaged. Instruments allow the students to experience a different side of music they would not get to outside of the school day. Anytime instruments appear ready to use in our classroom, the students are full of excited energy and are ready to play.
My Project
The instruments I am requesting already have a home and have been used in our classroom. The ukuleles have a beautiful cart built by our P.E. Teacher, the boomwhackers have a great place to hang on our wall, and the mallets have a wonderfully decorated container ready to be placed in. The students already know where these homes are and have used the instruments before, but there is just one problem. We don't have enough instruments for everyone to use.
This project will allow all of my students to have their own instrument to play during class time.
Right now, due to large class sizes, many of my students share and are often bored waiting for their turn to play the instrument. Plenty of class time is also wasted while waiting for students to find a partner to share with. Instruments for everyone eliminates these problems and allows the students to get right to doing what they love to do. Make music.
