My students need some basic tools for measuring different variables in the lab. Tools that we currently have are either broken or inadequate.

My Students
Help my Chemistry students obtain the instruments they need to make sure their measurements are accurate, precise and worth analyzing. I love to bake cookies!! In order to do so I need three measuring tools. If I didn't have those instruments I'd, quite frankly, have some lousy cookies in the end.
My students attend the largest high school in our city and come from a highly diverse range of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
They are hard working, eager to learn, high achieving individuals. Our school is located in a very diverse region of the city and therefore our students speak many different languages and come from many different countries. The school building is over-crowded, under-funded and in considerable need of an overhaul, as much of its interior has not been updated for fifty years.
My Project
The curriculum that I teach requires me to provide students with opportunities to design and carry out experiments in which quantitative data (numerical measurements) need to be collected and analyzed. With any current equipment that we do have students are not able to gather good data, because much of the equipment is in disrepair, is not accurate or it doesn't work at all. Therefore, I am looking to build a supply of tools that can be used in the lab, either in individual investigative work done by students (which is a requirement of our International Baccalaureate Science courses) or in group lab situations.
Being able to effectively and accurately use measuring tools in a Chemistry lab will help my students understand the value of careful and precise work.
I want them to be able to have confidence in the work that they do and when they are using broken, dirty, old and inaccurate materials in the lab I know that they are negatively impacted, feeling like are getting "the short end of the stick."
