This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students live in a low-income area and don't often have the same experiences as other students their age who live in different areas. They had the benefit of working with a visual arts teacher in our first semester and they absolutely loved it.
Now that we're addressing our other Visual and Performing Arts standards, I want to expose them to learning a musical instrument!
When I mentioned learning a musical instrument to them their eyes lit up and they were excitedly trying to figure out which instrument it might be. I often play instrumental music for them while they are working independently and the opportunity to learn how to make their own could potentially be life-changing.
Having their own recorders and their own music book is exactly what they need as their first exposure to learning an instrument and possibly a future career!
