This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As an educator in a high poverty/low income school, students are faced with numerous challenges before they even enter the school doors each day. Regardless of what is occurring at home, reading is a great escape and a crucial life skill for students. I am fortunate enough to work at a school where we focus on building positive relationships and helping each student grow not only academically, but emotionally and providing them with the tools to succeed in and out of the classroom.

Fostering the love of reading is what I strive to accomplish each day.

My reading classroom consists of 21 students that each have their own unique learning styles with most coming from a bilingual household. Students are able to pick books from the classroom library every week to enjoy! It is important for students to have high-interest books at their various reading levels.

It's amazing to watch students be engaged in books during silent reading time! I always tell my students that reading is like having a movie in their brain. With a variety of books, student are able to let their imaginations go wild!

My Project

Your generous donation will get high-interest leveled books into the hands of many eager, developing readers! Instilling the love of reading is one of my main goals as a second grade teacher. I strive to provide students with the fundamental reading skills to give them the tools to be successful as they continue their educational journey.

Providing a classroom where students are excited to read at an early age is crucial to inspire them to be lifelong readers.

I want to build their confidence in reading which will benefit them across all academic and social areas. Students will be reading these books every single day!
