My Students
Each day, first graders depend on me to teach them how to read, write, and develop problem-solving skills that will be the foundation of their education. These students come from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Their families qualify for free lunch and often do not have the means to provide literature, manipulatives, and other educational tools at home. So, I feel it is my role to provide them with rich learning experiences on a day to day basis.
Due to their backgrounds and limitations in resources at home, my students often enter elementary school significantly behind their more affluent peers.
My Project
Throughout the school day, my students have a number of opportunities to practice new skills. It is important that students practice correctly so that they build a solid foundation for solving math problems and spelling patterns. If students practice incorrectly, they often ingrain bad habits that are more difficult to break.
These white boards will allow one teacher to be able to instantly give students feedback on their work so that they do not continue to practice incorrectly.
Students hold up white boards so that the teacher can see their mathematical strategy or the spelling pattern they used, which allows quick feedback to keep going or how to correct a mistake. Perfect practice leads to strong foundational skills!
