My Students

Learning math isn't just about calculating and memorizing facts. It's about applying and analyzing the skills you know to new problems that exist and viewing the same problem in different ways. With a wireless document camera, several students can present a variety of solutions to each other.

My middle school students are eager to learn and eager to share.

They accept and celebrate their differences. In a public school setting, these students work to embrace hard work, celebrate successes, and use mistakes as a springboard for new learning.

My Project

I hope to use this document camera to showcase the different perspectives and strategies each student uses to approach problem solving. I find students have a hard time reproducing their thoughts on a white board. By outlining their strategies in their own learning space and bringing the camera to them, they are much more fluent and well versed in their explanations to the class.

Too often students are told how to problem solve which often leads to unsuccessful problem solving as an adult.

Children should be allowed and encouraged to find new ways to view problems. By showcasing their different strategies, we as educators can build confidence and creativity when it comes to problem solving.
