Inspiring Young Writers!

I need assistance to attend Columbia College's Writing Institute this summer in NYC. I want to learn how to better inspire young writers!

My Students

I am so fortunate to work with motivated second graders who love to learn! My students have been growing as writers in Writer's Workshop since they were in kindergarten. Writer's Workshop has given my students the opportunity to learn how to write in different genres through the units of study and to foster a growth mindset and independence in writing.

My second graders LOVE to write!

It's so exciting to see them apply the skills that are taught a during my mini-lessons and work with their peers to help one another grow as writers! I love when I tell them that Writer's Workshop is over and it's time for recess and they ask me if they can stay in and write!

My Project

I'm so thrilled to attend the week long Columbia Institute in NYC this summer! I'm very fortunate that my school is helping with some of the cost, however, your donation will help offset some the additional expenses. We will study methods and plan curricula, revitalize thinking, and learn to turn our classroom into a richly literate writing workshop!

This institute highlights instruction that encourages a growth mindset in student writers!

Some of the learning will include using mentor texts to lift the level of student work, working with writing partnerships, and teaching students to transfer word study knowledge into writing.

I'm looking forward to being able to elevate my teaching through my learning at Columbia College. I want to share my learning with my peers and apply it to my future teaching. My hope is to increase my impact on my second graders and continue to inspire them to love writing!
