My students need a 3D printer so that my students can see they can open possibilities in technology that they have never had and could give them a focus as a creative outlet.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. G.'s classroom raised $811

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach math in an alternative high school. My students have major gaps in their education and as well as teaching math I am teaching my students how to use technology which can help them throughout their lives.
Giving my students resources to create 3D objects will offer a venue that intrinsically motivates them.
My students have not had much opportunity to apply technology in their lives. I am showing them how knowledge of math can help them in life and allow them to better themselves and be more self-sufficient. Helping students believe in themselves is a large part of their achievement. Too often they find the work is “Too Hard”. Changing their mindset from fixed to growth has profound effects on their education. Once they have a growth mindset, having technology to put in their hands which helps self engagement and intrinsic motivation.
.
My Project
My students are leaning to better themselves and prepare themselves for life outside of school. This comes at a crucial time in their life when they feel many previous teachers may have given up on them or overlooked them and allowed them to slip through the cracks in our system. In my classroom, we are filling the gaps in education of low income families and helping prepare them for life.
Allowing my students to apply math skills in a tangible setting where they can walk away with a final product not only empowers them, but also sparks interest in others.
Finding a balance between team cooperation and goal oriented lesson plans push my students to help each other and as they grow their math skills. Collaboration and metacognition reflection creates an environment where helping others help themselves. As my students get closer to their goals their belief that they can actually do math increases exponentially. Many of my students have very little time and experience with computer and application. I believe if they can come together to create projects on the computer using math, coordinates, and geometric shapes, they will no only self govern but also spark vigor in other students (like sparking a wildfire). I am inspiring my students to be leaders. A 3D printer would inspire them to work together and be able to walk away with a tangible product.
