As the year goes on, it becomes apparent who the avid readers are. There are students who can pick up a book and instantly find enjoyment. By 5th grade, students have pretty strong perceptions about themselves are readers - too often, many students hold negative perceptions about who they are as readers.
Sometimes, all it takes is the right book for students to finally buy into reading.
I am seeking to add engaging texts to our selection for book clubs. Based on the books we've read this year, titles such as The Trail by Meika Hashimoto and Dinged by Tommy Greenwald, will help engage students. Students often gravitate towards books that involve characters who are relatable - similar age, playing sports, hanging with friends, navigating hardships.
Providing students with ample options help them feel empowered. Thank you for helping students find their way to reading!
