Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

With this project my students' imaginations will know no limits. They will be able to stretch their creativity as they interact with art and technology in exciting and innovative ways.

I have a enthusiastic group of first grade students who are very diverse in their skills.

My students are primarily English Language learners. I have some students that can sound out words, while others are still working on letter recognition. However, despite the differences in academic skills, all of my students are creative! I want to tap into their creativity with the help of the Disneyland CREATE grant.

My Project

The Osmo Gaming System for iPads is a technology system that bridges the physical and digital worlds by taking the experience beyond the screen. The students will improve problem solving skills as they meet the Tangram challenges. The Osmo promotes collaboration and teamwork as students work together to compete in friendly word puzzles. They will be inspired to use their imaginations and creativity as they explore new drawing skills and techniques. Osmo enables students to manipulate digital images in innovative ways. For example, they can put their own head on a superhero's body. After creating a drawing, the next step will be to use the watercolors to paint final masterpieces to take home and share with their families. The messy mats will help keep our work areas neat, so we can easily transition to the next activity.

It is important to bring the arts into the classroom in order to inspire my students' creativity.

Many students do not have access to technology at home. Being able to safely experiment with these drawing apps at school will provide a unique experience that will cross over into the home. They will be able to practice techniques learned on the iPad in class with crayons at home. Therefore, it is my hope to bring this project to life with the help of the Disneyland CREATE grant.
