My students have a variety of disabilities and bring unique challenges to the classroom. Sometimes getting through one tiny piece of a lesson is a huge breakthrough. They have come a long way since the beginning of school and I would like to keep that momentum going.
They come from unstable, low socioeconomic backgrounds, get their only meals at school, but still manage to bring a positive attitude to class.
I want to ensure the safest, most inspirational learning environment for them while they are here.
My Project
The classroom is where students interact the most throughout their day.
With electronics becoming more a part of everyday life, it is essential to encourage positive social interaction between individuals at school.
I will use the electricity equipment and magnets requested to create more interesting Science lessons. This way Science will come alive instead of being captured in a book.
Capturing student interest is essential for the information to be retained. I am trying to create a classroom that encourages students to explore their world and provides them the opportunity to do so with excitement.
These materials will help create a fun, positive, student-need oriented classroom. The exercise balls will be used as seating for the students with ADHD who feel the need to wiggle and move during instruction. I have a trampoline that I will put the protective pad on and use as a reward for remaining on task during lessons. Providing them an outlet for their energy actually increases their ability to focus during instruction. The students will know their needs are understood and met in this classroom which will make them comfortable and eager to learn.
