My Students
I work in an amazing community that was severely impacted by Hurricane Harvey. As we have healed and recovered from this catastrophic event our district has suffered deep budget cuts. I would love to have an additional reading/language arts curriculum resource and current fiction and nonfiction story books to use for our 2nd graders. I work at a Title 1 campus and the students we service have needs that span from special education to gifted and talented. Our budget for the upcoming school year does not have enough funds to purchase the books we need for a new reading program we are implementing that combines literature with nonfiction science and social studies text.
My Project
These books will bring both fiction and nonfiction text to life for our students. The illustrations and photographs will spark the minds of our visual learners, the text will help us learn new facts and explore creative storytelling.
The books go hand in hand with an amazing reading curriculum called Rooted in Reading that tackles a new story weekly incorporating vocabulary, a weekly skill, comprehension and grammar into fun hands on activities all centered around the book of the week.
The variety of titles that the students will be exposed to will appeal to all since there are many different genres throughout the year,
