My students need 10 copies each of 3 "Hunger Games Series" titles.

When I shared an excerpt from The Hunger Games with my students on the second day of school this year, I had never seen so many students excited about one book at the same time. As a teacher, this was an incredibly exciting moment.
My students are sixth graders at a turnaround charter school in Pennsylvania.
The neighborhood is low-income, and the students have been in a school that, for ten years, was one of the lowest performing in the district. The school has now been taken over as a charter, with the goal of raising reading levels 1.5 years in our first year there. In the few short weeks since school started, it has become clear to me that my students are incredibly smart and are up to this challenge if I can help them along the way. They are excited to be a part of the school and have already avidly picked through the classroom library I managed to scrape up from books I found in the building, but they need to continue to be inspired and challenged to keep reading.
With the Hunger Games series, my students will have at hand books that will excite and engage and challenge them. So many of them have already shown interest in reading this series, and continue to ask me daily when we can get copies. Having these books will help to open up the world of reading to students who, in the past, have not found reading to be an enjoyable activity. My students will learn that books can take them places and can be just as exciting (if not more so) than television, movies, and video games. I am excited to be able to share this series with them and to get them excited about reading more in the future.
Finding books that will inspire reluctant readers can be a challenging task.
By helping me to bring the Hunger Games to my classroom, you will be helping to bring the excitement of reading to students that desperately need to see what that means for themselves.
