My Students

Our school is nestled in the community of Greenpoint, Brooklyn. My students come together to learn each day, many speaking English as their second language, from origins all over the globe! They are creative, enthusiastic, and inquisitive learners! I strive to encourage their curiosity with hands-on, project-based study and educational and creative play.

We work hard to foster an environment of respect and collaboration.

Our classroom includes a wide-variety of learning levels and styles, and those differences are acknowledged and celebrated. Each child is valued, not only as an important member of our first-grade team, but as an individual.

My Project

There's nothing better than curling up with a good book! Unless you can't "curl" comfortably...The purpose of this project is to help provide a comfortable (and fun!) reading environment for my first-graders.

Reading opens the world up to a child.

Trust me, the sight of a first-grader deep into a beloved book will set your heart a-flutter. But, think about how you love to spend time with your favorite books. Maybe it's cocooned in the sheets of a warm bed or piled up with pillows on the couch. I can almost guarantee that it's not sitting on a hard, tiled floor. Right now, that's where the majority of my students spend time with their books. Because they like to stretch out and enjoy the freedom that comes with independent reading time, a chair and table just won't do for most six-year-olds, so they take to the floors. The small set of rugs that I have purchased are in heavy rotation and it's heart-breaking to not have enough to share to everyone. I would love to be able to give all of my students a "happy place" to either foster or inspire a love of reading.

There are tons of amazing projects on this website and I thank you for taking a moment to read about mine. If you choose to support it, know that you have helped to bring some comfort and joy to a bunch of beginning readers. Thank you!
