This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in an inner-city school in a large city of MO. Our school is what is known as a neighborhood or comprehensive school, and so our building has high levels of poverty and homelessness, high student transiency rates, and many English Language Learners (ELLs).
These students are some of the most resilient, hard-working kids I've ever met.
They brave some truly challenging circumstances to get to school every day. I want to do all I can to give them the education they deserve!
My Project
During Semester 1, I worked hard to get books in my students' hands that they would love. Keeping high-interest, up-to-date books in my classroom library is essential in inspiring students to become readers.
Eliminating barriers to books is the number one way to get kids reading, so I am happy to provide books that they are excited to read.
I make a huge effort to get students into the school library often, and the public library even visits (to give book talks and temporarily house new books in our school library), but sometimes there are books we can't get either of these ways.
Please help me refresh my classroom library and add the books they've been asking for and are not available in our school library!
