This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I'm a Dual Language teacher at a school that serves economically disadvantaged students. My kind, inquisitive and energetic students are always eager to learn new things and be their best selves.
My students look forward to Math and Science class every day, yet have difficulty visualizing themselves as scientists, mathematicians, and future problem solvers.
They actively participate in hands-on activities and make connections to real world situations, but don't consider mathematics and the sciences as future careers. For this reason, my students would benefit from texts and activities that spark a lifelong interest in solving real world problems.
My Project
These materials will help my students engage with STEM fields. Background knowledge will be developed in students through lessons and independent reading with these visual-rich books. They will help students practice their vocabulary and reading skills, too! The activity kits will provide hands-on experiences for students to independently create solutions to real world problems. This combination of materials will allow students to engage in their learning through visuals and tactile manipulation, and they will love sharing what they learned by talking and writing about it! STEM is the future and we must prepare students to be critical thinkers and problem solvers!
