Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 4th and 5th grade students are a diverse and integrated group of learners. In our Spanish Dual Language class, some students come from Spanish speaking families, but many students do not. Some students receive special eduction services, while others do not. Students' families come from all over the world and speak many different languages.
My students are encouraged to express themselves and their creativity.
One way in which we give our students this freedom of expression is through daily project time. This is a time when students can use materials to make a project of their choice.
My Project
Every day our students have project time. Throughout the year they quickly go through paper, tape, glue and paint. Not only do we need to replenish these materials often, but we need more exciting and inspiring materials. How can we expect these students to innovate when they are limited in their expression?
These materials will push my students beyond the basic paper and tape projects.
They will be encouraged to try out different mediums and forms of expression. The art books will inspire them to try new techniques.
These materials will also be used for curriculum related projects. As we study Ancient China and learn about the innovations of this civilization, students will use our new materials to create projects inspired by Ancient China.
