Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine being greeted with enthusiasm, hope, bright eyes and open minds on the first day of school. Their minds are ready and willing to be filled with knowledge. Every teacher's dream, right? However, they are some weaknesses in their reading skills and resources. The school is located in a middle class neighborhood, but the funding is an issue. Many parents can not provide their children with a set of novels throughout the year along with paying for school fees, lunch, school supplies and other daily necessities. Your support will help provide the beautiful experience of exploring novels cover to cover. Allowing these curious children to explore parts of the world through the words and images created in their minds as we read aloud in class. Aside from the journey, your support will help improve their fluency, reading comprehension as well as confidence. The advantages to literacy are endless and priceless.

My Project

Reading allows students to experience and travel to different places in their heads. These novels will assist students to experience the love of reading. The current push in education is getting students to read and analyze non-fiction pieces. The "Freedom Walkers" will provide an in-depth view of the struggles that were in existence historically, specifically with the Civil Rights movement. Another novel "Number the Stars" addresses another time period in which discrimination led to loss of lives. Both novels will demonstrate the value of education, hard work and perseverance.

Fully engaged students learn; sounds like a statistic, but it is a fact.

Actively reading provides the foundation to be set for lifelong learning whether it is the improvement of reading aloud, vocabulary or comprehension the advantages are endless. Within a year, students will feel empowered with knowledge. In essence, this will lead to productive, happy, hard-working citizens in our community. Be part of the difference maker and contribute today!
