This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students learn best by doing and creating. Having students connect what they are learning to a creative output will ensure that the knowledge they gain stays with them longer.

My students are minority students, English language learners, and 98% qualify for free or reduced lunch.

From these statistics you would think that I have a difficult class to teach, yet my students are an amazing group of kids. They come to school so excited about learning and ready to succeed. I feel that students learn best when there is a creative output for their knowledge. In addition, students try harder when they know that their work is going to be put on display. I like to have the students create projects at the culmination of each unit. Once the student has prepared their project, we then host "museum" sessions in which other classes and parents can come and tour their creations. Students love showing off their work, and having to explain to fellow students and parents what their project represents enforces the concepts that they were learning.

My Project

The supplies requested will help provide the materials for a variety of student projects at the end of math, reading, science or social studies lessons. Students will be allowed to choose among the available projects. The canvas, paint, and brushes will allow students to create masterpieces. The bookmaking kits will allow students to create children's books on a variety of subjects. Modeling clay will allow students to create sculptures. The HD Camcorders and Flash Drives will be used to allow students to create public service announcements, newscasts and small plays. The Color Laser Printer will allow students the opportunity to create digital images and print them out. The possibilities for students to think creatively are endless with these supplies.

The arts are being removed from our schools.

Yet art is an important means of connecting students to the curriculum. I truly believe that students who create something get the information stored into their long-term memory where it can be recalled for years to come.
