This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Teaching English Language Learners is heart work! Inspiring students to learn English all while teaching them about the Latino experience in California is the goal of this project. I know that access to read and reflect on and write about Victor Villaseñor's coming of age story will help my students not only cope with the struggles of their youth, school, and fitting in, but it will also help them master the English Language. The goal of these books and journals is to inspire my students to write their own stories and document their family and personal journey to attain their dreams. I hope to infuse mental health lessons as my students struggle to cope with pandemic set backs and are especially unmotivated by their lack of progress in reading and writing in English.
