My Students

Our school serves only at risk middle school kids. They are the students who struggle in traditional learning environments and typically fall through the cracks. Something just doesn't click for them in large classes where they end up failing and feeling like school just isn't for them. At our school, smaller class sizes and a focus on organization, perseverance, and positive relationships with teachers, staff, and peers helps to create an environment of success and pride.

We constantly have former students, parents, and community members reaching out to us because of the difference our school has made in their lives or the lives of someone they know.

Students tell us that they feel successful- often times going from failing grades to a 4.0.

My Project

In our Maker Lab the students struggle with finding project ideas. Our students often choose our alternative middle school because of issues with anxiety, autism, or other issues that make traditional schools a place where they have difficulty functioning. The internet is a blessing and a curse for them as they get overwhelmed with all of the ideas that are a click away.

Having a library of project ideas that are organized by skills they are passionate about will ease anxiety and increase creativity and engagement.

Students will be able to use the materials we already have available in the Maker Lab with these books to create an infinite number of projects- from musical instruments to jewelry to electronics and even a geodesic dome from the Duct Tape included in this project! They love making things and will be truly excited to find new projects so easily.
