This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are 10th and 11th grade Special Education students who also have varying degrees of English fluency. Our school is made up of a diverse student population that draws from the most ethnically mixed neighborhoods in our area. Most of my students lack the luxury of having access to reading materials at home. They have had minimal access to books and reading for personal enjoyment.

These magazines would give them a reading experience that involves their world today.

Oftentimes, they have mixed feelings about books and words. My goal every day is to open their minds and hearts to the joys of reading and connecting their ideas to each other and to the world. This would enable them to enjoy reading and become life-long learners.
