Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I absolutely love how my middle school students approach learning with excitement, curiosity, and unique perspectives. They are eager to express themselves creatively and are full of potential, even though many come from underfunded communities. This project will allow them to tap into their creativity and develop their artistic skills while giving them the tools to explore new forms of expression.
The specific materials I'm requesting, including markers, colored pencils, watercolor paper, and drawing supplies, will make a huge difference in how my students approach art.
The markers and colored pencils will help them experiment with different color palettes and techniques, while the watercolor paper and card stock will provide the high-quality surfaces they need to bring their visions to life. The electric pencil sharpener and erasers will ensure they can work without interruptions, keeping them focused and engaged.
My goal for this project is to inspire my students to see art as a way to express their personal stories and emotions. By working on an abstract art project inspired by Alma Thomas, they’ll learn to connect their ideas with artistic techniques, allowing them to feel empowered and proud of their work. This project will also build their skills in problem-solving, creativity, and self-confidence.
What makes my students special is their resilience and their ability to create despite challenges. Many of them do not have access to quality art supplies at home, so having these resources in the classroom will not only enhance their learning experience but also offer them a chance to explore their creative potential in new ways.
