My students are excited to come to school each day and to learn from one another. They enjoy working in collaborative groups and sharing their knowledge with each other. They enjoy using their critical thinking skills to evaluate new information while integrating the arts to show their learning. They get very excited any time we can use technology in the classroom and they aren't afraid to try something new.
Jane Goodall once said, "You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you.
What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make." With this quote in mind, I want to help my students become aware of the impact they are having on the world around them.
My Project
Reading good books can be life-changing! The books in this project will help inspire creativity and kindness. The book, Henri's Scissors, helps kids create art using scissors and paper in the style of Henri Matisse. The fun pictures and colorful designs in the book will help students create their own artistic name plates using a new medium. The Ocean Alphabet books will not only help students with odd and even numbers in math, but will also be the inspiration for an underwater art project featuring ocean animals.
Teaching creativity and kindness with books is a fun and safe way for kids to make connections.
After the Fall is a book about a boy who learns a lesson in kindness after he makes some tough choices. The discussions that are prompted by the books in this project help us learn to persevere, take creative risks, and keep trying.
