My students need the Lego Education WeDo 2.0 and the Simple & Powered Machines sets to dive into some STEAM learning. These sets will help them learn about coding, engineering, and robotics.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Teach the children well and let them lead the way," this line is from Greatest Love of All by Michael Masser and Linda Creed. And I firmly believe what the song says. In this day and age of technology, it is still vital that children have the opportunity to use technology on a regular basis. We need to teach children strong technological skills because they will, one day, lead the way in this technological age.
My students come from very diverse backgrounds.
They also have diverse ability levels. We are in a large school district that has been severely hit by budget cuts. We have very few supplies and there is definitely no money to be spent "extras." My class is full of curious students who love to learn through hands-on lessons. They are bright and enjoy learning. They need exposure to lessons that cannot be taught using just the materials supplied by our district.
My Project
STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math) is a vital area of study in this technological age. It is impossible to expose students to this important field without the materials to enable hands-on lessons. The arts will be incorporated as the students draw and journal their STEAM learning and their robotic designs.
My students will have first hand, concrete practice in STEAM through the use of the Lego Education sets.
These sets will ignite their interest in STEAM while they practice planning, problem-solving, teamwork, and organizing. They will learn about engineering and design by building the models. Students will practice robotics, coding, and programming by using the program that makes the models move.
I have a couple of these sets and am trying to get more so that I can effectively and regularly have groups in my class that are focused on STEAM. Each kits is ideally suited for two students and I have 35 students total. More sets would facilitate more groups and therefore more time for the kids to work with the kits.
