My Students
Have you ever not known you needed to speak up until you heard someone else do it?
My students need to hear a teenager speak up for their right to have an education before they can understand the privilege they have.
At our school, we have students from a broad range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
While they have many differences, they still have a lot of things in common.
They are kids who like to have fun and want to succeed and make a difference in their world. My students have shown great potential and I cannot wait to see what they will do as they use their education to impact people around them. They are writers, scientists, engineers, artists, politicians, teachers, and much, much more. They will be fathers, mothers, aunts, uncles, and grandparents who will reach into the lives of future generations and make a change that will alter the destinies of thousands, if not millions.
My Project
My students can greatly benefit from hearing Malala's story of persecution and perseverance for the sake of her right and other girls rights to education. But once they have heard her story they need to challenged to speak up as well. They can cut out their own words to express their desires to overcome barriers to their education and others'. They can post these words around our school, community, and elsewhere. These words can remind them and those that read them of the barriers to education that are out there and the truth that we can overcome them together. They will learn how to make a difference in their own circles of influence and even bring awareness beyond where they believed possible.
The classroom will become a lab for change through donations to this project.
Donations to this project will also go beyond the classroom creating students who become advocates for their own educational rights and for the rights of others.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
