Inspire Them With Vernier Digital Probes in Chemistry
My students need 2 temperature probes and 2 Vernier LabQuest Mini interfaces for their Chemistry and AP Chemistry lab experiments.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
For Chemistry students, pH probes and thermometers are required tools. In the fields of science, engineering, and medicine, technology rapidly is progressing. Computer experience in a modernized, updated science lab is becoming a necessity for college bound high school students.
Our urban public high school is as diverse racially, culturally, and economically as our large metropolitan city.
Our student population is by majority Hispanic (70%), followed by Asian, White, Black, Pacific Islander, and various other groups. Almost all my students classify in our state's lowest economic category, which qualifies them for financial assistance such as reduced lunch and free tutoring programs. For nearly 50% of my students, the primary language that their family speaks at home is not English. Many of our students were classified as ESL students (English as a Second Language), when they began high school, but have now been reclassified as English Proficient. Due to funding cuts, science classes at our public high school have recently increased to average sizes of 47 students per class. We are not a private school, so in order to give these young students a taste of a modernized technological experience, our science lab programs truly survive from donations and grants.
My Project
Over my years of teaching Chemistry, I have gained a great appreciation for traditional chemistry lab tools and procedures. It is foundational that students understand how to perform the classic Chemistry experimental procedures, but it is quickly becoming imperative that students know how to operate digital, computer- interfaced science lab equipment and how to read and analyze data by computer
The LabQuest mini, the temperature probes, and pH probes that I am requesting will greatly benefit our developing science lab for my students of Chemistry and Physics. Students will be able to take measurements more easily and to spend their time concentrating on analyzing data graphically, thereby developing skills that are crucial for colleges and careers in science. And of course, students will enjoy operating the LabQuests. With the devices, my Chemistry students will be able to perform experiments in calorimetry and freezing point depression as well as acid base titrations.
In order for me to update and modernize the lab experience for my students, our school must rely on outside donations and grants.
Thanks to DonorsChoose, for a few years now, I have been able to integrate technology into all my science classes, little by little, for students to share. Students love working with Vernier. Any and all equipment we receive will benefit all my classes - Chemistry and Physics students of all levels. Anything you can do to help expand my science program is appreciated.
