Our school is a health and nutrition school in a city district of New York. The school serves grades pre-kindergarten through three. We are a tight-knit school where the students love to be in school. The students need fun and engaging activities to foster their love of learning at a young age.
Many of them may not have access to these experiences at home, so I want to provide that for them in the classroom.
Many of my students come from immigrant homes where English is not the first language. This has not hindered their enthusiasm and curiosities. They have questions and ideas but are always in need of resources for inspiration and reference.
My Project
It's wonderful how little changes in materials or how we use materials can truly inspire students! My fellow third grade teachers and I have found that when students use colored paper, whether it's looseleaf paper, construction paper, colored card stock, they feel special, inspired, important because of how different and beautiful the papers are!
Publishing writing and stories is an important part of the writing process and we want students to feel that their writing is valued!
One way we can do this is through the use of different kinds of paper! We want our students to know that they are lifelong writers; their experiences and imaginations are valued and special. We will be using the paper for the last step of writing which will be publishing our personal narratives, literary essays, feature articles, persuasive essays and of course, creative writing! Out of the plain ole white looseleaf and in with the colored paper!!
