Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a proud kindergarten teacher of 22 amazing students! My students live in a lower-income neighborhood and they frequently do not come with the readiness expected for kindergartners. In addition, many of my students do not speak English as a first language at home. My job is to close the gap and get them to the target reading level by the time they leave my classroom. Through the hard work of my students (they truly are amazing workers) we have been making strides. I feel we still have a long road ahead of us and more literacy materials would help us on our journey.

My students are extremely interested in reading! The best way for me to improve their reading levels is by taking small groups that are on the same level and guiding them to the next level. While this is going on, it is important that the other students are engaged in meaningful and educational activities. I do not have any assistance in my classroom, so I need tasks that will keep the students engaged and will challenge them to keep them moving to their next goal.

This project request will provide my students with the resources they truly need and deserve to keep them engaged while I am working with small groups. These activity kits have a variety of different phonics and phonemic awareness activities. With these activities, I can ensure that my students are working on activities that are just right for their reading level and I can continue to give my attention to the small groups of readers that I am working with.

Your donation to this project truly will make a difference. My students will use these materials daily and they will learn and become better readers because of your generosity. These students begin their education behind the target, but with your help, we can get these kindergarteners back on track. Your help can allow my students to be excited about reading and their education!
