This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As an Algebra 1 teacher, I truly believe our classroom setup can inspire all students to want to show up and excel! High schoolers are stepping into young adulthood and the classroom should reflect that. My students always rave about how clean and comforting our room feels but the seating leaves a little to be desired. Kids are a lot taller and bigger than when I was younger so it's important to have varied seating options to accommodate them. Our periods are 85 minutes long so comfort is imperative.
The comfort of these tables will contribute to the sense of community and heightened communication that I instill in our lessons as opposed to single standing desks.
The social-emotional impact of gathered spaces helps greatly with group work and a sense of belonging in the classroom.
