My Students

As a teacher in a high poverty school district, I work with students that are faced with challenges in and outside the classroom. Despite the challenges my students face, they persevere. My students are high energy, communicative, and enthusiastic learners. They have a lot of energy and are always looking for a fun way to learn. They love to get involved with the lesson in whatever way possible.

My students love to show off their work and teach their peers.

They are excited to teach each other, both in groups and in front of the class. My students are visual learners. They love to use different resources in the room to show learning strategies to their friends. The students are a great group of mathematicians, scientists, writers, ​and artists.

My Project

This fall while putting my classroom together I took all the wooden quotes I had hanging around the room and put them all on one bulletin board. It ended up looking awesome having them all on one bulletin board so I left them there. Everyday I heard a student read one of the sayings so I left the board up. It is almost the end of the year the board is still up and the students are still reading the sayings.

My students have found inspiration in reading the wooden saying we have, a few more signs will give students more mantras and inspirational sayings to have in their pocket.

I hear my students repeat them to each other in the halls and during class, sometimes they even quote them to me.

Occasionally we have a day in class where we really need a saying, but don't have one. Having something on the wall that literally says "you got this" or to "believe in yourself" goes farther than one realizes. I say these things to my students everyday, but this year especially they have loved coming and reading the sign they need. Having these new signs to end out the year will help my students get through state testing without stressing and to believe in themselves as they transition to the middle school.
