"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up." -Picasso
Students come into art class of various backgrounds many are economically disadvantaged but each having something within themselves wishing to explore artistically.
Art programs in this advanced academy have doubled indicating an understanding of the importance of the arts to educate the whole child and in recognizing the growing interest of the arts to the students. Students range in skills and interests from introductory to advanced with a talented program being offered. Recently, Advanced Placement Studio Art was included into the curriculum. This AP offers students an opportunity to earn college credit and to further their growth in the visual arts. Art in this 9th-12th grade high school supports, encourages, and motivates each individual well throughout their high school years but also throughout their life.
To display the art of my visual art students within their community encourages them to continue to develop their artistic skills, their aspirations, and to further their art education.
Having these art supplies will allow students the means to create art that will be displayed in various settings including a range of upcoming community events.
One such event is our K-12 yearly parish art show held at the Audubon Zoo where students, family, friends, and community supports the artistic endeavors of our young artists in a family-friendly environment. The easels, canvas, rulers, scissors, markers, and acrylics will allow the students to explore both wet and dry media to make their personal vision become a reality.
Regardless if in an introductory talented art class or in an advanced talented art class, students who see their art on display gain a sense of confidence in their artistic skills; they appreciate the endeavors of their fellow students, and the community supports the passion and hard-work of their young minds.
