My Students
My students are absolutely amazing in every way. Our class is complete with 25 enthusiastic, curious and animated first graders from a range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our class is an integrated co-teaching (ICT) classroom meaning that a portion of our students have special needs. Our needs range from speech and language disorders to autism and none of the labels stop any of the students from trying their hardest and always exceeding expectations. These 25 students are dedicated and excelling in the classroom is the norm!
Our class of students are a unique, clever, determined and persistent bunch with a range of interests and needs - making each and every lesson new and exciting!
My co-teacher and I take a very hands-on approach to education which allows students to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways.
My Project
My students are increasingly fascinated by anything and everything science. We have been reading some Magic School Bus books and all of the sudden they are hooked! We have learned about the water cycle, digestion, pollination, the solar system and more. After reading a book my students have TONS of questions... but we do not have the literature in our library to help them independently find their answers.
When students are interested in topics and become curious, they take charge of their learning and reading becomes a blast.
I want to ensure that my students have a variety of books on these topics so that they can learn how to find answers to their questions in books. These books will not only be used during their everyday independent reading time but they will also be used during shared reading, for read alouds and brought home to read with their families!
