Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My goal is to make my classroom fun and engaging. I want my students to love coming to school and to be active learners!
I have 24 kindergarten and transitional kindergarten students.
They come to school each day with big smiles on their faces and are ready to learn. I teach in a low income school with a high number of English language learners. My school is innovative and offers a wide variety of after school clubs to give opportunities to students that many probably wouldn't have otherwise.
My Project
Every Wednesday we do science-based centers in my classroom. I would love to create an insect discovery day for my kindergartners.
My goal is to make my classroom engaging, rigorous, and filled with hands-on learning experiences.
After reading informational texts about insects, students will rotate through STEAM centers revolving around insects. I am requesting tempera and watercolor paint so that students can paint giant bugs to hang around the classroom. The bug discovery kit will be a hands-on way for students to see a variety of bugs magnified and they will be able to identify the different parts of an insect. At another center, students will use the bug eye viewers to experience what a bug sees compared to what humans see. For math, students will use dragonfly counters to spin and add numbers to 20.
I can't wait for my students to learn all about insects and to experience these hands-on centers!
