I teach an awesome group of motivated, creative, and enthusiastic fifth graders who want to experience everything possible through their education.
Meaningful learning experiences can provide an amazing opportunity for differentiation and engagement in the classroom.
Our school receives 100% funding for free breakfast and lunch for all students. My students have a wide range of ability levels, backgrounds, and interests, and they simply cannot all learn in the same way!
Many of my students face challenges outside of school, and I want to do all I can to make them feel loved and valued inside my classroom. These students are very collaborative and enjoy opportunities to learn, work, and create with their peers. Providing more opportunities for collaboration, creative expression, and the ability to share their knowledge will greatly benefit my students!
My Project
The classroom will be transformed into a glow in the dark zone! Students will come into the room and see everything glowing! What an exciting way to learn and teach! Students will be using the black light to integrate Science and Math through the study of insects. Students will interactively learn about bio-luminescence in insects, such as the fireflies!
Students will have hands-on experience of how insects communicate by using their light!
Mathematics will also be included in the lesson by building insect structures or homes with glow sticks. Students will use their glow sticks to build a home and need to describe the shape, angles, and number of sides of the structure.
Many of the materials will help transform the room to be glowing with learning and fun! None of this glowing would be possible without the black light fixtures. The neon markers, highlighters, and tape will allow me to provide directions to the students, designate workspaces for each group, and let the students write out their findings! The variety glow sticks will be used to build insect homes or structures. With so many glowing ideas, we will be working hard all day long!
