Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day in our classroom consists of a constant review of a daily visual schedule, timers beeping, ringing of bells to signal the end of activities and the start of new exciting ones, learning centers, facilitated play, circle time, wiggle time, and music.
Our students are vivacious and incredibly active.
Our class consists of 10 talented individuals, all with an autism eligibility. Each of our students have an IEP (individualized education plan) in place. These plans consist of goals to help our students with everyday skills, including but not limited to play skills, academic skills, social skills, attending, and participating in activities.
Our school is located in Sunnyvale, CA. This year, we have been moved to a new campus. Moving into our new classroom gave us the opportunity to go through all of our materials and revamp what we need to make our thematic learning curriculum better. This may include adapted seating, wiggle activities, toys, books, furniture, teacher supplies, snacks, sensory items, outdoor toys, and play ideas to make preschool more exciting and engaging for our little explorers. We are usually their first school experience; we strive to make it a great one!
My Project
This year we wanted to incorporate a project into our classroom for a hands-on opportunity for our students to be able to see the life cycle of some insects. We have requested ladybug habitats, butterfly habitats, and worms! We are hoping that these resources will help our students understand how insects work and live.
Hands-on learning in preschool especially is so important.
We would like to bring in these materials to help our students see, hear, and touch. We've requested books to help them learn about the insects auditorially. We have requested habitats so our students can visually see and inspect the insects and their homes. Potentially their lifestyles. And we have requested a few different species of the insects to be able to collaborate on the different ways insects live and look. These hands-on materials should be so much fun for our preschool aged students!
