Help me give my students a ladybug larvae kit, an insect specimen center, magnifying glasses, insect counters and more!
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Morel's classroom raised $256

My Students
Our tiny, rural, Title I school is located in central New York. My students come from a very tight-knit community, in which most of the families have lived for generations. Despite our small size, we have a diverse population, and students come from all different backgrounds and experiences.
My students are inquisitive and creative, resilient and bright!
There are 17 students in our first-grade class, 14 of which recently returned from a year of remote learning!
My Project
We have returned to in-person learning! Fourteen of my 17 students have returned to in-class instruction, and I am so excited to offer them some hands-on experiences during our insect unit! These materials will help to engage my students, and allow them to experience the small miracles that happen all around them. We will be spending 2 weeks studying insects, and how they grow, respond to their environment, and reproduce.
The materials in this project will enrich and enhance my young learners understanding of life cycles and adaptations as we watch every stage of ladybug metamorphosis in their grow house!
The supplies in this project will not only provide us with the ladybug kit to watch ladybugs grow in real-time, but will also provide additional hands-on materials to create ladybug and insect replications out of Play-Doh, watercolors, and more! The insect kit from Lakeshore will provide additional opportunities to study insect samples up close, and the magnifying glasses will let us act as scientists as we document our ladybugs' growth.
Our at-home friends will not be left out as they are supplied with the materials to document our experience as well, and pictures and live videos of our in-class observations.
I am so excited to bring this experience to my first graders and so thankful for your consideration in helping our classroom!
