it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Do you remember the excitement of being in a lab and performing experiments to find the answer to a question? Wasn't it even more exciting when you took charge of your own learning and were able to grow your own plant or perform your own experiment?
During this project students will work in small groups to grow Fast Plants, which have been specially developed to complete their life cycle in just 40 days, allowing students to observe every part of the cycle.
Students will begin the project by planting their seeds and recording data on germination. Throughout the next month and a half, they will continue to record growth data while also completing hands-on activities such as a flower dissection and hand pollinating their Fast Plants with dried bees on sticks. At the end of their plant's life cycle, students will also learn how to harvest the seeds from the Fast Plant pods.
As well as engaging students in science content, this project will also serve to strengthen students' science process skills as they generate questions and collect and analyze data. In the end, students will not just have a better conceptual understanding of the science content, but will also be better classroom scientists who understand not just what science is but also how it is done.
