My students struggle to bring the essential school supplies to class. Being a teacher, it is hard to provide these essential items out of my pocket let alone be able to have supplies needed in order to pull off an inquiry based investigation.
My students come to class with a world of problems upon their shoulders- many have children of their own and work multiple jobs to provide for their families.
My school is a suburban school with a high percentage of economically disadvantaged population. However, the positive to this is that they are taking an advanced placement class trying to better their lives and situations.
My Project
The resources I am requesting will allow my students to be successful on the AP exam. These inquiry-based labs are tested on this exam and students need to be able to "see" the tiny processes taking place. The labs I am requesting include an Enzyme Catalysis lab, Diffusion and Osmosis labs, and bacterial transformation.
After seeing these labs at a recent professional development, I know these are exactly what my students need to grasp these challenging concepts.
In higher level classes, the labs can be overwhelming and complicated but these labs get the same point across in a clear and concise manner. These labs will provide my students opportunities to think out of the box, practice writing and mathematical skills necessary in everyday life.
