Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students represent a variety of ethnic cultures. Many of them are from low-income families. They attend a public middle school located in California. My students enjoy studying science and embrace the opportunity to engage in interactive activities with the use of technology.

Our classroom would benefit from having technology available for students to use daily in order to enhance a STEM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) curriculum.

All of my students are in the 8th grade. I have students who are learning English as a second language. I also have students who are identified as gifted.

My Project

My students are very unique because they come from various cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Students in my classroom are English Language Learners. They struggle to read and write in English with ease. My English Language Learners need access to technology that they have previously been denied the opportunity to explore due to socio-economic factors. This laptop will serve as a hands-on approach to assist students with researching, reading, and comprehension. My students do not know how to type in a word processor, use the Internet for research, or send an email. While these may sound like trivial tasks, they are really essential skills necessary for success in our technology-driven world.

In addition, access to a classroom laptop will promote science literacy by being able to show students online science simulations, online science tutorials, and science articles on the Internet.

In order to prepare my students for a tech-savvy global job market, they require both exposure to and instruction in the use of today's technology. By providing them with a classroom laptop for daily use in reading, and writing, English language development, we can work together to help them meet the expectations of 21st-century learners.

I set high expectations for my students and I want to provide them with every opportunity to become successful. Students who do not have access to technology at home will have the ability to utilize this technology in the classroom. They are eager to learn and apply what they have learned to complete tasks. Because my students work hard, I want to give them the best educational experience. However, that is not always possible when resources are limited. It is my desire to educate my students so that they can become lifelong learners.
