This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are creative, enthusiastic, explorers that seize every opportunity they have to do more with their education. The more they are exposed, the more they grow. When I look at them- I see the future leaders of our community through the passions they exert daily. Even with a failing school district stigma looming overhead, my students have managed to find ways to thrive and move on to great institutions of higher learning and other jobs in this community we call home.

My Project

My students will complete collaborative coding projects using the Raspberry Pi. Raspberry Pi is as small as a credit card, yet it works like a normal computer. We will assemble the kits in collaborative groups. This will allow students to gain hands on experience in real world electronics application that they may not otherwise, have encountered. As a class, we will explore Raspberry Pi's possibilities and limitations and use it to generate ideas for future initiatives. The students will use the devices to practice their coding.

AP computer science principles allows students to explore many different types of programming languages.

The majority of the students' time with the Raspberry Pi will involve using different languages to complete assigned projects.

The Raspberry Pi's ability to inexpensively work with sensors, servos, Wifi, Bluetooth, audio, video, and images opens opportunities for exciting and engaging projects.
